Japan’s beleaguered Toyota motor company has announced another vehicle. This one is for nearly half a million of its highly prized Prius and three other hybrid models. The Prius vehicle recall comes on top of more than 7 million other vehicles that Toyota has been forced to recall for various problems. The hybrid vehicle recall affects Prius and Lexus cars in the U.S. due to a braking problem. Reportedly, the recalled vehicles’ brakes “seem to soften” when braking, Toyota said in a statement. Eight other Toyota models, including the popular Camry model, are among the other recalled vehicles being brought back into Toyota dealerships to fix a defective gas pedal situation. Uh, oh! Here we go again. After dealing with a massive public relations problem, the Toyota Motor Corp. has another defective automobile complaint on its hands. The newest complaint about defective automobiles made by Toyota comes in the form of a brake problem for the Japanese company’s gas-electric hybrid, the Prius. More than 100 complaints have been lodged with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration concerning the Prius’ braking system, including two that involving crashes with injuries. The latest defective automobile complaint is sure to hamper sales at the world’s No. 1 automaker coming on the heels of concerns with eight other Toyota models about a defective gas pedal that has a tendency to get stuck and even possibly accelerate. The carmaker did issue a directive about how to handle the defective gas pedal and has resolved to fix the issue, but that is little help to anyone stuck in a busy parking lot or bumper-to-bumper traffic, where a sudden lunge forward could prove deadly.
