They are the guarantors of Mubarak's authoritarian regime. Al Jazeera reports that the pro-Mubarak is accompanied by uniformed police who were out of sight for several days. Nine hours later, Tahrir Square was transformed into what one observer called a snowball fight with rocks, and the situation is aggravated by the hour. The pro and anti-Mubarak, are engaged in fighting and stone throwing shoes and punch. The pro-Mubarak protesters, who seemed to be back and the side streets, but now pro-Mubarak forces in charge of the horsemen and armed Camel Club. The media, which organized the demonstration against the government has said that anti-Mubarak protesters were attacked, and large groups converge on the square to support the protesters. An unknown number of people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

So even though Apple is avoiding Las Vegas again this year, the company is the “elephant in the convention center” at CES, as CNBC’s Julia Boorstin put it yesterday — in part because everyone assumes that Apple is working on, and will soon preview, the next version of the iPad. So far, there are no hints about when curtain will rise on the next Steve Jobs Show. That January 27 event turned out to be the coming-out party for the iPad.

United Airlines announced late Saturday that it has canceled dozens of departures on Sundays from Newark, Philadelphia, New York, LaGuardia and JFK, Boston and other airports.

The last time there was no measurable snow on Christmas Day was in 1882 when one third of an inch of snow in the city. But he said there is still uncertainty about the path of the storms, and that any differences can affect the total amount. In Georgia, the National Weather Service reported 1 to 3 inches of snow could fall in metro Atlanta on Saturday. If the forecast holds, would be the first time since 1993 that the snow on Christmas Day in Atlanta, said the weather service.

Snow on the ground in all 50 states? It could be!

Could it be? Could all 50 states actually have snow on the ground? That has been the expectation for for Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, two days before Valentine’s Day. Florida could be the lone holdout for snow on the ground but forecasts are for up to 2 inches of snow in the extreme northwestern part of the state. With the temperatures that have been prevalent in the Sunshine State for the past week, if it snows anywhere, some of that white stuff known as snow should stay on the ground in some spots around the state. A University of Oklahoma student is going to attempt to record evidence of snow on the ground in all 50 states. Patrick Marsh is asking residents of every state to send him photos of the snow on the ground.
