Eurocopter Demonstrates New Emergency Backup Electric Motor For Helicopters

(PhysOrg.com) – Normally, when a helicopter lost power in flight due to engine failure, the pilot is equivalent to using a technique called autorotation to avoid accidents. What happens is that the rotor is turning automatically because of the fever over the air when the plane falls, preventing the plane picks up speed from below, eventually leading to a safe landing. The pilot is forced to rely on a lot of muscle power. To make things easier for the drivers, and therefore safer for all concerned Eurocopter, the manufacturer of the first helicopter in the world, has developed a way to allow the pilot to more easily maintain control of the rotor and the lowest landing with an additional electric motor. The problem, however, is that controls the descent is quite difficult due to lack of power adjustments for the angle of the rotors, which can lead to the court. In a sense, is very similar to the difference between the brakes and power.
