PMP is committed to burn the seeds from Monsanto, and asked March to protest against the presence of companies in Haiti, 04 June, World Environment Day. . A new earthquake is that the peasant leader Chavannes Jean-Baptiste papaya farmer Movement (MPP) has asked the news that Monsanto will donate 60,000 bags of seeds (475 tons) of maize hybrid seeds and vegetable seeds, some of these treaties toxic pesticides.

In an open letter sent on 14 May, Chavannes Jean-Baptiste, the executive director of MPP and Speaker of the National Peasant Movement of the Congress of the papaya (MPNKP), called for the entry of Monsanto seeds in Haiti a bad attack slightly stronger in "agriculture, farmers, biodiversity, native seeds, and what remains of our environment in Haiti [1]. social movements in Haiti have expressed opposition to imports of food and agricultural seeds and food that threatens local production with local seed stocks. They expressed particular concern about the importation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Elizabeth Vancil, director of Monsanto's development initiatives, called the news that the Haitian Ministry of Agriculture has approved the donation of a fabulous gift of Easter in an e-mail in April. [2] Monsanto is known for aggressively pushing seeds, GM seeds, in particular in the North and South, with very restrictive technology agreements with farmers that are not always aware of what they are signing. According to this writer interviewed representatives of organizations of small Mexican farmers, who are forced to buy seeds from Monsanto every year in terms of reach, the high costs sometimes can not afford.

thiram pesticide label must contain a special warning, said the EPA. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who ordered a special review. The results of tests on mice and rats EBDC has caused concern in the U.S. EPA has determined that EBDC treated plants are so dangerous to farm workers who must wear special protective clothing when handling. The EPA also prohibits the marketing of chemical products for backyard at all, because it assumes that most gardeners do not have enough protective clothing [4]. Monsanto mention thiram over to officials of the Ministry of Agriculture in an email does not contain any explanation of the dangers, nor any other provision of clothing or special training for agriculture to be toxic seeds. The maize hybrid seeds Monsanto won Haiti are treated with the fungicide Maxim XO, calypso and tomato seeds treated with thiram [3]. Tiram is in a class of highly toxic chemicals known as ethylene bisdithiocarbamate (EBDC).

Without citing specifics, the lawyer for 10 American missionaries who apparently tried to take children out of Haiti illegally has abruptly quit, according to CNN International. It wasn’t known who would replace Edwin Coq, the Haitian lawyer hired to represent the American missionaries, who have been charging with kidnapping in the case. Coq said Laura Silsby, the leader of the American missionary group who took the children, fully knew “she didn’t have any legal documents that would allow her to do so,” CNN quoted him as saying. The American missionaries were attempting to take the children across the border into the Dominican Republic, even though Silsby was warned by Dominican officials not to bring the children into the country without documents.

Meeting Jan. 18, European ministers in Brussels said they were making $197 million immediately available for disaster assistance to the the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The ministers also said they were contemplating $300 in longer-term assistance. Meanwhile, the United States, acting largely in the absence of any official Haitian government, is being accused of taking a dominant role in relief efforts at the exclusion of other nations. A French plane containing a field hospital, was reportedly turned away from the Haitian airport by U.S. military, according to the Washington Post. The plane was allowed to land the following day. The Post quoted French Cooperation Minister Bernard Koucher that, “This is about helping Haiti, not occupying Haiti.” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had said the U.S. is not interested in taking power from Haiti. In Guatemala, no damage or injuries were immediately reported after a 6.0 quake hit 60 miles southeast of Guatemala City.
