Without citing specifics, the lawyer for 10 American missionaries who apparently tried to take children out of Haiti illegally has abruptly quit, according to CNN International. It wasn’t known who would replace Edwin Coq, the Haitian lawyer hired to represent the American missionaries, who have been charging with kidnapping in the case. Coq said Laura Silsby, the leader of the American missionary group who took the children, fully knew “she didn’t have any legal documents that would allow her to do so,” CNN quoted him as saying. The American missionaries were attempting to take the children across the border into the Dominican Republic, even though Silsby was warned by Dominican officials not to bring the children into the country without documents.
