As the Allies marched inexorably northward through Italy during World War II, the Nazis went to work photographing the debris of damaged historic buildings and works of art. Just because: An exhibition in Munich points on the ruins of the war the Nazis used propaganda in Italy. The images had to prove that their enemies were the barbarian culture.
