Fortunately, Barack Obama agrees. This week, the U.S. government has come to shed its stake in General Motors (GM), where the recent collapse of an old warehouse to offer shares to the public once again (see article). The United States expects much of its president, but I do not think car manufacturers should work.
Many people have found this bailout (which accounted for a small Chrysler, a company worst) unwise. The label quickly Motors Government, evoking images of clumsy construction Commission itself notes that burned instead of running with Sarah Palin petrolall might be called the Socialist leader. Lovers of free trade (including) the fear that Obama could use GM as a political tool, perhaps to encourage the unions that donate to Democrats and force the company to build smaller, greener cars that consumers want to buy . Governments remain repugnant managers in the industry.
Thus, the car has been a successful rescue? It is difficult to be sure. If the government does not intervene, GM could restructure under bankruptcy without risking public money. But all parties suffered during the collapse of GM, if this effect may be small. Given the panic that has seized the reins of the private portfolio last year, is more likely that GM could be liquidated, sending a cascade of destruction along the supply chain of its competitors, also depends . With regard to moral hazard, awaiting rescue plans may require future leaders and trade unions in other sectors to act in haste. Many observers that this is unlikely, however.
