While the best college football player in the land — Nebraska’s defensive tackle Ndamakong Suh — won’t win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, an early indication may have come from the college football awards program tonight on ESPN when Texas quarterback Colt McCoy walked off with two individual awards — The Davey O’Brien Award for best quarterback and the Maxwell Award for best all around player. McCoy would have been a shoo-in for the Heisman if not for a dismal final-game performance against Suh’s Cornhuskers. Unfortunately, Suh won’t win the award because defensive linemen never win it and he didn’t receive enough early season hype for the award.
